How to Bet on Golf:
There are a few different bets you can place when betting on Golf. You can bet on head-to-head action between two golfers, you can also bet on a particular golfer to win the event, or wager that a golfer will place in the top three.
Head to Head Example
| Ernie Els |
+ 130 |
| Tiger Woods |
- 160 |
|
Winning the Head to Head Golf Bet
In the above example Tiger Woods is the favorite of the match indicated by the minus sign. If the bettor is picking Tiger they must bet $160 to win $100 or $16 to win $10. Ernie Els is the underdog and the bettor would bet $100 to win $130 or $10 to win $13, if they think Ernie would win the match.
Golfer to Win Event Example
| Ernie Els |
+ 280 |
| Tiger Woods |
+ 160 |
| Payne Stewart |
+ 350 |
| Nick Price |
+ 700 |
| Lee Janzen |
+ 650 |
| Field |
+ 500 |
|
Betting on a Particular Golfer to win an Event
In the above example a $100 bet would win the amount shown beside the plus(+) sign. If you bet $100 on Nick Price and he won the event you would win $700, a $10 bet would win $70. The closer the number is to $100 the more likely that golfer is to win the event.
Most Sportsbooks will also include an entry call the "Field". The field is made up of all players left that are not listed by the Sportsbook.
Top 3 Example
| Ernie Els |
+ 110 |
| Tiger Woods |
- 130 |
| Payne Stewart |
+ 125 |
| Nick Price |
+ 130 |
| Lee Janzen |
+ 140 |
| Field |
- 110 |
|
Winning the Top 3 Golf Bet
In the Top 3 bet, you are betting that a particular player will finish in first, second, or third place. In the above example it is likely that Tiger Woods will finish in the top 3, so you must bet $130 to win $100 or $13 to win $10 which is represented by the minus(-0) sign.
Additional Information about Golf Bets
The matchup is based on the action for the entire length of the tournament, unless noted otherwise at each matchup.
For stroke play tournaments the wager is on who will play the most holes. If both players complete the same number of holes then the player with the lowest number of strokes wins the matchup. Both golfers must tee-off for there to be action. If either golfer fails to tee-off the wager will be deemed no action and all wagers will be refunded.
For match play tournaments the winner is the golfer who wins more holes for the duration of the match, for however long it takes.
